Postgraduate education at the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University began in 1979, making it one of the first institutions in the country to offer such programs. In 1981, the institution became one of the first to be granted the authority to confer both doctoral and master’s degrees, and it proudly trained the first Ph.D. in clinical medicine in the western region. Currently, the institution offers doctoral programs in 7 first-level disciplines and master’s programs in 10 first-level disciplines. It is home to 3 national key disciplines and 1 key discipline in traditional Chinese medicine. Additionally, 3 of its disciplines are ranked within the global top 1% according to the Essential Science Indicators (ESI), with clinical medicine securing a distinguished position within the top 0.084%. The clinical medicine program, which the institution leads, received a B+ rating in the Ministry of Education’s 4th and 5th rounds of discipline evaluations. In the 2023 Fudan Comprehensive Hospital Rankings, the institution earned an A++ overall ranking, along with 19 specialized disciplines being nominated for recognition.
In 2023, the number of postgraduate students for the first time surpassed that of under postgraduate students. As of 2024, the institution had enrolled 4,306 postgraduate students. The faculty is composed of highly qualified scholars with rigorous academic standards, including 132 doctoral supervisors and 512 master supervisors. Among them, there are 25 national-level talents, including Chang Jiang Scholars, recipients of the National Outstanding Youth Fund, and those from the National Ten Thousand Talents Program. Furthermore, 24 faculty members benefit from the Special Government Allowances, while 452 have received provincial or ministerial level recognition.
The institution has produced numerous exemplary postgraduates, including TIAN Xin and XU Xiaoming, who were recognized as “Top 100 Postgraduate Party Members” nationwide. Over the past three years, the postgraduate team has won 1 gold, 2 silver, and 3 bronze medals in the China International College Students Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition. Additionally, more than 100 students have earned provincial or ministerial-level honors and above.
